JOINT OPERATIONS CENTRE ON HIGH ALERT AS LAW ENFORCEMENT MAINTAINS 24 HOUR STATE OF READINESS

The Nelson Mandela Bay Joint Operations Centre (JOC) has intensified operational readiness and coordination across all government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety, security of residents, businesses and visitors on 30 June 2026.

All law enforcement stakeholders are currently on a heightened 24-hour state of readiness to respond swiftly to any incidents that may arise across the Metro.

The coordinated deployment includes the South African Police Service (SAPS), Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Provincial Traffic Services, Municipal Traffic Services, other government security partners and departments.

Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe, said "The safety and security of our residents remains our foremost priority. Although there are currently no official applications for any marches or protests within Nelson Mandela Bay, we are adopting a proactive approach by placing all government and law enforcement agencies on a heightened 24-hour state of readiness. Through the Joint Operations Centre, the South African Police Service, Metro Police, the South African National Defence Force, Provincial Traffic and Municipal Traffic Services are working in close coordination to maintain law and order, with enhanced deployments in identified hotspot areas.

We want to reassure residents, businesses and visitors that Nelson Mandela Bay remains safe and open for business. We encourage everyone to remain calm, continue with their daily activities, rely on verified information and work with us to preserve the peace, stability and safety of our Metro."

Based on intelligence and operational assessments, law enforcement visibility and monitoring have been strengthened in identified hotspot areas, including, Addo Road, Korsten, Central, Motherwell, Walmer, New Brighton, Missionvale, KwaZakhele, Kariega.

The Municipality wishes to assure residents that these deployments form part of a proactive and preventative operational strategy aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring that communities continue with their daily activities safely.

At this stage, no official applications have been received for any marches, protests or public gatherings within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, however, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely through intelligence-led operations and will respond decisively to any unlawful activity that threatens public safety or critical infrastructure.

Residents are encouraged to remain calm, continue with their normal daily activities, avoid spreading unverified information on social media, and report any suspicious or criminal activity to the relevant law enforcement authorities.

Government remains committed to protecting lives, safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring that peace, stability and the rule of law prevail throughout Nelson Mandela Bay.
