WATER SUPPLY RECOVERY UPDATE – KARIEGA

Municipal teams continue to work around the clock to restore normal water supply to affected areas in Kariega. While progress has been made in improving system output and reservoir recovery, some communities continue to experience low pressure, no water supply, or intermittent water supply.

The areas currently most affected include:

* Kariega CBD
* Higher-lying parts of Rosedale, Mountain View and Kamesh
* Parts of Kabah
* Allanridge
* Thomas Gamble
* Scheepershoogte
* Valleisig
* Fairbridge Heights
* Winterhoek Park
* Strelitzia Park
* Vanes Estate

Residents in these areas may continue to experience water supply challenges while recovery efforts remain underway.

Two pipe bursts have been identified in the central part of Kariega and are currently being repaired by municipal maintenance teams. These bursts have impacted water pressure and supply to parts of the CBD and have also affected the recovery of the supply network from the Kabah Water Treatment Works.

Water is currently being supplied to the Fairbridge Reservoir and the Municipality anticipates a gradual improvement in supply to Fairbridge Heights and surrounding areas as reservoir levels recover.

Technical teams are also undertaking further operational adjustments at the Kabah Water Treatment Works to improve plant performance and increase water availability to affected communities. While earlier interventions have assisted in stabilising parts of the system, the desired level of recovery has not yet been achieved, particularly in the higher-lying areas of Kariega. Additional measures are therefore being implemented to improve network performance and accelerate recovery.

At the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works, production has increased from 180 megalitres per day to 190 megalitres per day. Teams continue to optimise operations to further improve output and strengthen supply resilience across the metro.

To support essential services during this period, water tankers continue to provide water to affected facilities, including Kariega Provincial Hospital and other strategic users requiring emergency assistance.

NMBM remains committed to restoring a stable water supply to all affected areas as quickly as possible. Current assessments indicate that, should system conditions continue to improve and no further major disruptions occur, significant recovery in the most affected areas could be achieved over the coming days. Residents are, however, advised that recovery remains dependent on ongoing repairs, reservoir replenishment and treatment plant performance.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE – KWAFORD SUBSTATION

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents of a power supply interruption affecting New Brighton and surrounding areas.

The outage was caused by the tripping of an 11kV circuit breaker at the Kwaford Substation. As a result, electricity supply has been interrupted to affected customers in the area.

Technical teams have been notified and are currently investigating the cause of the fault. At this stage, the exact cause of the interruption has not yet been established.

The Municipality understands the inconvenience this outage may cause to residents, businesses and community facilities. We thank affected customers for their patience and understanding while our teams work to identify the problem and restore supply safely.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents that at the Motherwell Police Substation, a 22kV circuit breaker has tripped, resulting in a power outage affecting the following areas:

* NU 10
* NU 11
* Motherwell Police Station
* Surrounding areas

Despite the inclement weather, electricity teams are currently attending to the fault and are doing their best to restore power safely and as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and understand the challenges this outage may cause.
