The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents that at the Clevedon / Salisbury Mini Substation, a 6kV circuit breaker has tripped, resulting in a power outage affecting the following areas:

Standby staff have been notified and investigations into the cause of the outage are currently underway. More information will be communicated as it becomes available.

WATER SUPPLY UPDATE

The NMBM has seen a significant improvement in water supply from the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works since approximately 15:00 yesterday afternoon, with production increasing to 180 megalitres per day. This remains a restricted flow due to current raw water conditions.

As a result of the improved supply, the Motherwell reservoir system has recovered to 26%, allowing approximately 50% of Motherwell to receive water supply. Currently, only the high-lying areas remain affected. Municipal teams will be deployed to bleed air from the system, while water tankers will continue servicing affected communities.

The restarting of booster pump stations is expected to improve supply into Kariega, where some reservoirs had dropped to low levels. Reservoir recovery in the area is anticipated to improve progressively towards lunchtime.

The Chatty Water Treatment Works has also been brought back online, and supply recovery to affected areas supplied from this system is expected to improve from lunchtime onwards.

Supply from the Churchill and Loerie Water Treatment Works systems has remained stable overnight. Water has successfully been pumped into the Chelsea Reservoir, which is currently sitting at 9%, while Emerald Hill Reservoir has improved to 13%. Coastal supply has also stabilised.

The current focus is on rebuilding levels in the major reservoirs, particularly Emerald Hill, to improve distribution to surrounding areas.

At present, the most critical supply zones remain the Gelvandale and Straundale areas, with Gelvandale being prioritised for water tanker distribution. The majority of the municipality’s 10 available water tankers are being deployed to affected areas.

A further system review will be conducted this afternoon, but overall conditions across the metro are showing signs of improvement.

POWER & SERVICE DELIVERY UPDATE

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is currently responding to widespread service disruptions caused by the heavy rainfall and strong winds experienced across the Metro. Our teams are working under difficult conditions and remain committed to assisting affected communities as quickly and safely as possible.

The severe weather has resulted in:
* Flooding at sewerage pump stations
* Damage to homes in certain areas
* Damaged electricity poles and affected power cables

Electricity updates:
* Power supply to NU11 has been successfully restored
* Notsholo remains without electricity as teams continue fault-finding and repair work
* Technicians are currently on site in NU13
* A transformer fire in Mbayisa was attended to by Fire Fighters, however the area is still without electricity at this stage

We understand the frustration and hardship these outages and weather conditions are causing for residents and families. Please be assured that all reported electricity-related cases are receiving attention, and our teams continue to work around the clock to restore services where possible.

Technical teams have been notified and are currently investigating the fault. Further information will be shared as it becomes available.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality warns the public of a scam currently in circulation where fraudsters have altered a municipal notice and ABSA banking confirmation content to look official, falsely claiming that payments can be made into an alternate bank account.

The Nelson Mandela bay Municipality’s banking details have NOT changed.

• Any communication requesting payment into a new or alternative bank account- should be treated as fraudulent. 
• Making payments into incorrect accounts may result in a financial loss.
