PLANNED WATER MAINTENANCE

PLANNED WATER MAINTENANCE
10 December 2025
The Coega Development Corporation is required to install a new connection on a main water pipe supplying water from the Coegakop reservoir, 13-18 December 2025.
This pipeline currently supplies the IDZ as well as surrounding industrial and residential areas. Most of these areas will be rezoned onto Motherwell reservoir, during this period, but certain areas may still experience disruptions and low pressures.
These areas include the Coega IDZ, Markman Industrial area, Port of Ngqura and Colchester.
Water tankers will be available but industrial and commercial consumers are requested to implement contingency plans, if possible.
We apologise for the inconvenience.
UPDATE - WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION
09 December 2025
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality advises residents of the following updates regarding the current status of the water supply system across the Metro.
Supply to most areas remains stable at this stage. The only area still experiencing challenges is the Kwanobuhle Reservoir 1 zone. The reservoir level has shown improvement, and normal supply is expected to be restored within the next couple of days. Water tankers remain in the area to continue supporting affected residents. The affected streets are:
Nkholi Avenue
Ben Stungu Street
Nginza Avenue
Nhanhanha Avenue
The Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works experienced an operational failure during the early hours of this morning, which resulted in a 15 percent reduction in bulk supply. However, current reservoir levels remain sufficient to sustain supply to the zones without service interruption at this stage.
The Malabar Reservoir level is currently very low. As a result, residents in the middle to lower parts of Gelvandale may experience low pressure or intermittent water supply.
The Municipality thanks residents for their patience and cooperation and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
