SAFETY AND SECURITY DIRECTORATE

 

SERGEANT: METRO POLICE

(METRO POLICE)

POSITION CODE: 190083

TASK Grade 12 (R360 948 – R501 828 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)

 

Qualifications and experience required:

·        Relevant NQF5 qualification and National Diploma in Municipal Policing (three-year qualification) or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management (three-year qualification) or Equivalent Policing qualification and requirements applicable to be appointed as a Municipal Police member in terms of Regulations for Municipal Police Services,1999.

·        Legislative requirements as per the South African Police Services Amendment Act (Act 83 of 1998).

·        Valid Code B Driver’s License.

·        Minimum of four years’ relevant experience in Municipal Police or a similar environment.

 Key attributes and competencies:

 

  • Physical fit and able bodied.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to stressful situations that are physically threatening.
  • Able to make decisions that have significant impact on the organisation and may have grave consequences.
  • Able to work variable shifts on a 24-hour basis.
  • Able to work standby, when required.
  • Communication and law enforcement knowledge, including daily parading and inspection skills.

 Job purpose:

 

  • The effective execution of all activities, operations and interventions related to Policing, in order to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient, shifts during the execution of operational duties in relation to By-law enforcement, Traffic Policing and Crime Prevention functions within the NBM Metropolitan area by taking charge of operational shifts during the execution of operational duties.

 

As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
