PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTORATE

 

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER

(ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH)

POSITION CODE: 180046

TASK Grade 12 (R337 332 – R468 996 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)

 

Qualifications and experience required:

 

  • National Diploma in Environmental Health, with a B.Tech: Environmental Health as the preferred qualification.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience.
  • A clean criminal record (essential).

 

The incumbent of this position will be required to perform standby duties as and when required.

 

The successful candidate will be required to utilise his/her private vehicle in the execution of official duties, for which a Casual (ad hoc) locomotion allowance will be paid.

 

Key attributes and competencies:

 

  • An in-depth knowledge of legal applications and procedures and interpretative skills to formulate plans and actions.
  • Sound report-writing skills with proficiency in MS Office Applications (essential).

 

Job purpose:

 

  • Planning, controlling and co-ordinating operations associated with the enforcement of legislation and by-laws such as the National Environmental Management Air Quality Act, the Dairy bylaw and the provisions of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectant Act, the Exhumation Act 15 of 1985 and the Circumcisions Act, in order to ensure the health and safety of the public.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outcomes with regard to plans and programmes put in place to comply with the Municipality’s constitutional and other statutory obligations, as well as the Integrated Development Plan and the Healthy Cities approach.
  • Ensuring an environment that is not detrimental to human life and health, and to prevent and abate environmental health nuisances/hazards. Administrative, budgetary and supervisory control functions.

 

 

As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
