VACANCY

SAFETY AND SECURITY DIRECTORATE

SUPERINTENDENT METRO POLICE: OPERATIONS (FOUR POSITIONS)

(METRO POLICE)

POSITION CODE: 7357

TASK Grade 14 (R427 476 – R594 312 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits) 

Requirements: 

  • Matric or equivalent NQF 4 qualification.
  • Must have an NQF 6 qualification, ITO 3 or National Diploma in Municipal Policing or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management or equivalent Policing qualification.
  • Must have successfully completed the prescribed Municipal Police qualification at an accredited Municipal Police Training facility.
  • Must be a registered Traffic Officer in terms of the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Must have permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa.
  • Must be proficient in English.
  • Valid Code B driver’s license.
  • No criminal conviction.
  • Must have seven years’ relevant experience of which two years must be in a supervisory capacity. 

Competencies: 

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit.
  • Must be able-bodied. 

Special Conditions: 

  • Exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Must be available to perform duties after hours. 

Job purpose: 

  • Supervising and controlling all functions/activities within one Geographical sub-area to create and maintain a safe environment through policing, enforcing traffic legislation and enforcing Local Authority by-laws, and performing all functions related to the specialised units to ensure effective and efficient service delivery through the implementation of applicable strategies, plans and policies.
  • Implementing and monitoring the plans/objectives for the Crime Prevention, Road Traffic and Law Enforcement functionality in order to ensure that key service delivery priorities are identified and outcomes managed through continuous assessment, intervention and adjustment to operational plans.
  • Monitoring the key performance indicators and outcomes of personnel within the Crime Prevention, Road Traffic and Law Enforcement Section in order to ensure a climate conducive to promoting and sustaining motivational and performance levels is cultivated and maintained enabling the section to contribute positively to the Directorate’s service level objectives and outcomes.
  • Delivering all specialised municipal police functions assigned to the specialist units of the MPD, inclusive of Training and Development, CCTV monitoring and control, Civilian and Internal Affairs, as well as Special Operations (e.g. Dog Unit, Equestrian Unit, TGRU, CRU and Substance abuse) to ensure an effective response to internal and external service delivery demands attached to these Units. 

As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
