TASK Grade 16 (R541 740 – R753 168 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)



  • Matric or equivalent NQF 4 qualification.
  • An NQF 6 qualification, ITO 3 or National Diploma in Municipal Policing or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management or equivalent Policing qualification.
  • Successful completion of the prescribed Municipal Police qualification at an accredited Municipal Police Training facility.
  • Registration as a Traffic Officer in terms of the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Possession of a valid Code B driver’s licence.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa.
  • No criminal conviction.
  • At least eight years’ senior management experience in Policing/Traffic Policing. 


  • Computer literacy.
  • Physical and mental fitness.
  • Must be able-bodied. 

Special Conditions: 

Must be available to perform duties after hours 

Job purpose: 

  • To lead and strategically manage and coordinate General Enforcement inclusive of cost centre management within one of the four geographical areas within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, with regard to the provision of traffic enforcement, by-law enforcement and crime prevention and to drive service delivery through the implementation of applicable strategies, plans and policies.
  • Liaise with Assets Forfeiture Unit, The Directorate of Public Prosecutions, and DHA with regards to illegal immigrants.
  • Drafting of the Annual Police Plan.
  • To manage and effectively operationally deploy the Specialized Units in order to render an effective and efficient response to crime and other incidents detected by the City’s CCCTV network, as well as rendering operational support to SAPS with regards to combating of gangsterism, drug and alcohol related crime, and illegal firearms in identified high crime areas.
  • To lend operational support to other Area Directors and address specific crime by means of targeted sporadic interventions.
  • To ensure the Specialized Units act as first responder during incidents of crowd management related to illegal gatherings at Council premises, illegal marches and demonstrations at major sporting and other events and civil disobedience linked to service delivery issues.
  • To liaise with internal (Housing, Land Use Management, etc) and external (SAPS, Asset, Forfeiture Unit, Directorate of Public Prosecutions, etc.) roleplayers to ensure successful convictions and eventual eviction of occupants of Council dwellings engaged in illegal activities related to drugs, liquor and gangsterism.
