TASK Grade 16 (R541 740 – R753 168 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits) 


  • Degree/B.Tech in Environmental Health with Waste Management as a subject.
  • Registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa.
  • A valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Five to seven years’ experience at Middle Management level. 


  • Leadership, planning and organising skills.
  • Interpretive, analytical, social and abstract reasoning skills.
  • Sound written communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate verbally in English and at least one other local language with all levels of municipal employees and members of the public.
  • Must be able to deal with stressful situations with regard to labour issues and service delivery. 

Job purpose: 

  • Managing the relevant key performance areas and resultant indicators of the Waste Management Branch, as determined by objectives identified in the NMBM Integrated Development Plan.
  • Providing strategic direction for the Waste Management Branch, through guiding the formulation of a strategic plan and strategies, promotion of research associated with the development of new technologies and methodologies in Waste Management.
  • Managing the provision of an efficient and cost effective waste removal, disposal and cleansing service.
  • Administration of contracts and training/developing emerging contractors, management and application of the Geographical Information System for the Directorate.
  • Coordinating functional management activities such as personnel performance and relationship management.
  • Controlling administrative functions associated with the functionality, such as reports and record keeping.

As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
