Revenue is the lifeblood of the services the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality provides to our residents - and therefore it is vitally important that account holders faithfully pay for the services they consume.  The Municipality has empathy with residents who are struggling to pay their bills and the option exists for them to visit their closest customer care centre to make arrangements for paying off their arrears. However, should defaulting consumers not make any arrangements or fail to honour the arrangements made, the Municipality unfortunately has no option but to implement its disconnection/restriction rules and procedures in terms of the NMBM Credit Policy, which means that the electricity or water supply of the relevant household will be disconnected or restricted.
 
Recently, incidents have been reported where residents have refused Disconnection Officers access to their properties or even where officials have been held against their will. The Municipality urgently appeals for calm and cooperation from residents:  please allow these officers entry to your premises: they are simply doing their jobs and are acting lawfully. Services used, must be paid for, so that we can grow and develop our city.
