The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to
advise residents and businesses that the water supply to a number of areas
across Port Elizabeth will be disconnected during certain hours over the next
few days, as detailed below. This will be done to allow
necessary maintenance and repair work to be undertaken by the
NMBM Infrastructure and Engineering Directorate.
On Thursday, 16 February, from 9 am - 4
pm water will be cut off at the Corner of Circular Drive and Wessel Swart Drive.
Technicians will be connecting new pipes to the
existing pipeline for the new development in Wessel Swart Drive:
A few houses on Circular Drive, opposite the
Wessel Swart Drive intersection, the BP Garage near Wessel Swart Drive, and
the entire Wessel Swart Drive will be affected.
On Friday, 17 February, water will be cut
from 7 am - 2 pm at the Corner of Gxilishe Street and Mission Road. Areas
affected will be Wards 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 33 (Govan Mbeki, Veeplaas,
Missionvale, Algoa Park, and parts of Zwide).
Residents and businesses will be able to use
water that is available in the pipeline from 12 pm to 7 am.
Technicians will be fixing a leak and undertaking
maintenance work and general repairs.
On 18 and 19 February, water will be
cut from 10 am - 2 pm and 9 am - 4 pm respectively in most lower areas of Ward 5
(Govan Mbeki Avenue up to the Russel Road intersection, Strand Street, and
parts of the Harbour). This will allow technicians to do repairs on the
two pipes inside the water chamber in the City Hall vicinity.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be
working tirelessly to make sure that supply disruption times are in fact shorter
than anticipated. These scheduled repair and maintenance related interruptions
are part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's plans to improve
infrastructure, decrease its water losses, and provide a quality and
uninterrupted water supply to residents and businesses.
